I’ve been feeling so lazy lately. Maybe it’s the cold weather, maybe it’s the lack of alone time that drains this introvert by the end of the day. Maybe it’s the fact that we just moved across the country and have been busy learning how to plow a driveway properly, are trying to make friends and still homeschooling. Could be a combination of it all.

But at the end of the night the last thing on earth I want to do is peel myself off the couch to tape off window sills and pull on my painting pants. That being really the only time of day that I can paint at this point, and we have a very audacious goal of painting 3 rooms to completion by early to mid march—when we’ll have hands to help us install some new flooring.

Last night Nick and I were talking and he mentioned painting while listening to a podcast. Thinking this would entice me into action.

“But I don’t want to learn anything right now… I’m tired.”

I tend to throw myself into learning a new subject with everything I have until I’ve spun myself out of steam and don’t want to look at the subject matter ever again.

But then my sweet husband reminded me…I COULD listen to podcasts for fun. Without learning.

Huh…novel concept.

So I’m listening to this podcast. And after motivating myself to get up and paint for “just 30 minutes”…the podcast wrapped me up enough to keep me going for 2 hours. I forgot how much fun it is to listen/read for fun and fun only.

The Great Wallet Mystery of 2023

This past week, almost a week ago now, I realized that I couldn’t find my wallet. I usually only leave my wallet in one to two (max) spots because I know myself. If I even tempt myself with the thought that I’ll remember where I put it while placing it on a rogue shelf in the middle of my house so I can have free hands to do something…I will never find it again.

So, it always goes on its shelf.

Except for this time.

I have racked my brain all week, have called random farm stands and restaurants. I have literally turned my house upside down looking for this little pink hobo wallet—the one that houses my broken debit card and my soon to be replaced California license.

After nearly a week went by, Nick and I were chatting at the end of the night, gearing up for me to call and cancel all my cards, when I had a lightbulb moment.

“Nick, I think I put it in the Target bag that we used to return our books to the library!”

“No, we would have felt that… the bag didn’t feel that heavy.”

At this point, this was literally my only hopeful thought left—so I left a message on the library messaging system and crossed my fingers for a call back.

This morning an incoming (603) area code number came in and I jumped on it. Pleeeeease have my wallet.

“Hi Jennifer, we have your wallet… I have to say, that was the most unusual thing to find in the book deposit drop we’ve seen.”

Lesson of the story is: always return one book at a time instead of dumping the whole bag. You never know what may have snuck into that bag.

Podcasting

After talking about starting a podcast, jokingly for years, but more seriously for the last year—with a ton of encouragement and egging on by our husbands—my bestie, Sammy Davis and I are starting a podcast. Today is our first day of recording!

I will not lie, podcasting is majorly stepping outside my comfort zone. I love writing because I can edit…and edit again…what comes out of my mouth until I like the way it sounds.

But alas, I think what we’re hoping to do with it is important…so outside the comfort zone I step.

Our podcast is called The Millenial Pioneer Podcast: a podcast that questions the status quo, but without being overly cerebral or intimidating, a podcast where we won’t take ourselves too seriously—with a side of education. One that will give you more options toward creating a life you’re proud of, a life that fulfills you and one that you will love. And that feels authentic to you.

I feel there are so many things we just do in our life because we are told that’s how it’s done. We go to public school, we go to the hospital to have a baby, we drink pasteurized milk, etc, etc…

…and there is absolutely nothing wrong with those things…IF that’s intentionally what you’re choosing for your life.

But ARE you intentionally choosing it, or was that how you were told it’s done?

Without intentional choice, it doesn’t leave room for a different experience that MAY be better for you… And we want to bring those topics up, ask the hard questions, try our best to see what we find to answer them, and hopefully break down some barriers, while hopefully making you laugh.

But to anyone who has ever met Sammy and I, especially together, you know it’s not going to be heavy and heady… we won’t be taking ourselves too seriously over here.

We want to dive into and get curious on these topics in a way that educates and even may dispel common myths, but also making it fun and keeping it real real.

If you want to follow along with the podcast and get the new episodes as they drop, once we actually drop on of these bad boys, you can sign up here.

Cold Ass Temps…

We are finally getting temperatures this weekend that live up to the grittiness of New England… without any wind, it’ll be -20.

Yup, you read that shit correctly.

With the wind chill, it could be some stupidly low number like -40+. Up where my parents live in northern Maine, with the wind it’s going to be -60+ below. I mean seriously.

But we’ve been soaking up all the 20 and 30 degree days. It’s be glorious. Look at these sweet, rosy cheeked wonders.

That’s all for now. Until next time

xo,

Jen
