If there is one product that I can’t seem to shut up about, it is this one. Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel. I am in love. I do have to say, however, that it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight. It sat on my counter for almost 2 months before I actually decided to get over myself and try it.

Why?

I was so afraid! The word “peel” got me all up in my head, worried that I would wake up, look in the mirror and my face would be peeling off.

You’ll be glad to hear that I did NOT wake up to a peeling face in the morning…quite the opposite actually.

What does an Overnight Resurfacing Peel do?

The overnight resurfacing peel is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acids)/ BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid) overnight leave-on facial peel that you can use from the comfort of your own home.

The peel encourages and promotes skin cell turnout by chemically exfoliating our skin.

Did you know that there are two ways to exfoliate? Mechanical (as in scrubs) or chemically (acids and peels). No? Well I didn’t either until recently, so we’re learning together.

And in case you were wondering… no, it does not peel

This peel helps to improve overall skin texture, minimizes the appearance of dark spots and fine lines, and reduces the appearance of large pores.

Can I get a heck yes?

Also, as an aside, some people have likened this peel to “botox in a bottle”

How to use the Overnight Resurfacing Peel

  1. First, you’re going to wash your face completely. Get the day off your face!
  2. Then, once your face is completely clean, you will apply 2 pumps of the resurfacing peel all over your face (and down to your décolletage too, as that is one of the first places aging shows up). By the way, it’s absolutely normal for it to tingle a bit when putting it on.
  3. Allow the product to dry for 3-5 minutes
  4. Apply your nighttime moisturizer.
  5. Now get some sleep!

A few helpful tips:

  • use the overnight resurfacing peel in place of a serum at night before going to bed.
  • make sure to moisturize after you apply the peel. Don’t skip this, the moisturizer helps to protect your skin.
  • Make sure to let the resurfacing peel sit for 3-5 minutes before applying the moisturizer
  • if tingling is really intense when applying the peel, skip the peel for 3-5 days, then try again. You can then work your way up slowly to 2-4 days per week.
  • you keep the peel on overnight – don’t wash it off before applying the moisturizer.
  • I promise you that your skin won’t peel off. I promise you this. I have to accent this because it was such a fear of mine!

What is in Beautycounter’s Overnight Resurfacing Peel?

This peel uses a combination of gentler acids to hydrate and protect skin while lightly exfoliating and resurfacing the skin.

  • Glycolic Acid: improves skin texture, exfoliates and gently resurfaces.
  • Lactic Acid: boosts cell renewal creating a smoother, brighter looking skin tone.
  • Citric Acid: Renews skin
  • Arginine & Fatty Acids: boosts moisture in the skin.

Is the Peel safe for pregnancy?

Yes! All of Beautycounter’s products are, actually. But unlike most other peels, this one is totally safe to use while breastfeeding or pregnant.

Directly from the Beautycounter website:

“At Beautycounter, we craft all of our products with safety in mind, especially for those who might be extra vulnerable – like pregnant women and babies. We carefully screen and assess each of our ingredients for 23 distinct, safety endpoints, including reproductive toxicity. That said, as pregnancy affects everyone differently, check with your doctor before beginning the use of any products if pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant.”

What’s In It For Me? The Benefits

I have seen so many incredible testimonials for this product. It has blown my mind some of the things I have seen. But here is an overall list of some of the benefits I know of and have seen in myself and others.

  • Skin Brightener
  • Decreases Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Reduces Pore Size
  • Clears Breakouts
  • Improves Skin Tone
  • Improves the Surface and Texture
  • Improve or treat melasma
  • Reduces acne scars
  • Lightens freckles (but why!?)
  • Decrease or treat hyperpigmentation
  • Reduces acne breakouts
  • Boosts skin’s moisture level

Resurfacing Peel Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • This product truly lasts a long time. I have had my current bottle for over 6 months already and I easily have another month or two out of it. And I am using it 2-3 times a week for perspective.
  • It’s concentrated, so a little really does go a long way. I use 2 pumps, but some people are happy with only using 1.
  • It freaking works! This product is magic in my book.
  • I know it’s clean and safe because of how rigorous Beautycounter’s screening process is.

Cons:

  • Could be expensive if looking at the cost alone. Obviously this is subjective… but I feel with the length of use and the results I get out of this product, it really comes up to quite little per use.
  • Can tingle when being applied the first time.
  • Some people have skin that is too sensitive for this product.

My Before and After

The photo on the right was taken at the end of 2019 and a handful of months before I started doing anything to my skin, and the photo on the left was taken in April 2021. Like with anything, results can come much sooner than that (which they did!), but with consistency, over time it continues to improve!

I look so much younger! My skin looks so much more vibrant in the picture on the left and under my eyes looks so much less tired. And the before photo I only had 2 kids at the time… not three :-p Not to mention, my skin tone seems a little more even (less red) around my nose and mouth.

And zero makeup in both photos!

When Will I See Results?

To be honest, I noticed a difference the morning after my first use. And this is not uncommon. But like with anything, the best results come with consistent use over time! I have been using the product consistently now (3-4 times a week) for about a year.

Would I Recommend the Overnight Resurfacing Peel?

Yes, yes and amen. Honestly, this is one product that I talk about constantly. If you could only buy one product from Beautycounter, this is probably the one I would suggest (obviously, I would need to know more about your skin… I know). I honestly feel like it makes all your other products perform their best too. So it’s absolutely the best bang for you buck. And you’ll feel like you are glowing… who doesn’t want that?
