Why women over 35 just may need to add a highlighter to their makeup routine to and exactly how to use one!

I was listening to a training call last night, a product training on our newest product, the new highlighter balm

and going into the call I was thinking, if I’m being totally honest, that this was a product I didn’t think I wanted or needed… I’m not much into makeup…

But the more the trainer started talking, the more I paid attention…

Let me just say that the call ended in me putting the highlighter in my cart.

The thing that perked my ears up was how adamant she was about women with “maturing skin “NEEDED to wear highlighter. And then, her reasoning made a whole lot of sense…

Why you need a highlighter for maturing skin:

  • Highlighter enhances your complexion
  • Brightens your skin
  • Highlights the high points – this is a big one as it creates a more youthful look
  • This balm glides over skin easily- no cakey highlighter sitting in creases
  • Gives a natural glow
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

I’m a little mad that no one told me about this sooner… similar to how I felt when I first learned about our cream blusher…

As you age, eye bags, sagging cheeks, and dull skin become prominent on your face. This is when you need a really good highlighter.

Just for shits and giggles, I tried using a little bit of lighter powder to act as a highlighter until mine gets here… and whoa…

I don’t know WHAT it is… but the light hits my face differently, makes me look more dewy, youthful… and just something about my face looks…better.

Okay, but how do you use a highlighter?

Yeah, I didn’t know what one was until last week..so…

Here is an amazing chart to show you exactly where to apply the highlighter, and where to apply the blush.

PS: when applying blush (I suggest cream blush), use the “2 finger rule”- place two fingers next to your nose. Keep your blush 2 fingers distance from your nose and sweep upward on your cheekbones (not below). **not on the apple of your cheek** This will give you the lifting look that you’re looking for as we age!

Now as you see in the chart above, a highlighter goes best with a buddy… our cream blusher. The blush is similar in that it creates a dewy glow, not a matte finish, and will give a more youthful appearance, while not sitting cakey in the creases.

How do I know which color to choose?

All four shades pf the highlighter are designed to complement most all skin tones, but the general rule of thumb is to choose the one closest to your skin tone. So, the lightest skin tones, choose lunar, the deeper your skin tone, go on up from there.

Curious to try a highlighter, but don’t want to commit allll the way?

When you get the cream blusher (or if you already have one), you can just get the refill for the highlighter and pop it into the compact for the blusher. It’s less expensive and a great way to see if you love it enough to have it’s very own compact.

And in my most humble of opinions, makeup goes on so so much better with a primer; especially our primer which has 4,000 encapsulated jojoba ester bubbles suspended in the formula designed to deliver instant hydration for a plumper, smoother surface to put that makeup on!
