Here is my honest review of Beautycounter’s Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer

I’m not much of a makeup gal. I like tinted moisturizer, blush, maybe mascara if I’m feeling saucy, and a touch of something on my lips. That’s it. To be embarrassingly honest, I hardly know how to apply eye shadow.

Almost 5 years ago, a friend of mine invited me to her house for a makeup party. It was the first time I had ever heard of the company, Beautycounter. I fell head over heels with the sheer lipstick and felt like a grown-ass woman bumping my game up from chapstick.

For the next 5 years, it was a slow burn love affair. I collected more and more Beautycounter products in my bathroom drawer, and tried to convince strangers they should try their products. And no, I was not working for the company.

Fast forward to 2020 and I am proudly standing with the company (and their mission), and now I’m trying to help others switch over their products to cleaner products too.

So let’s dive in and get specific today. Let’s chat about Dew Skin, Beautycounter’s tinted moisturizer and what makes it awesome.

Beautycounter Dew Skin Review

Clean Ingredients

Let’s start out by talking about the most important piece (in my opinion); the health of the product. The EWG (Environmental Working Group) gives Dew Skin a rating of 3 (10 being the worst, 1 the best).

I highly encourage you to run to the bathroom and look up the score for the foundation or tinted moisturizer you are using here. (a quick search of a standard product you may find at CVS left me with a Neutrogena tinted moisturizer- ranging from a 6-9 on the health scale)

Okay, so what are the leading role ingredients in Beautycounter’s Dew Skin:

Vitamin C – boosts elasticity and firms your skin, also brightens.

Black Currant Oil – helps to even out skin tone.

Peony Flower Root Extract– Brightens skin.

Non-nano Zinc Oxide – non-nano zinc oxide is a non-toxic, typically non-irritating broad spectrum sunblock. The particles sit on the top of the skin (rather than absorbing in like chemical sunscreens do) and scatter UV rays (UVB and UVA) protecting your skin underneath.

There are 2 types of sunscreen: mineral and chemical sunscreen. Zinc Oxide falls in the mineral category.

Warning: side rant coming in 3, 2, 1…

Why is mineral sunscreen safer than chemical sunscreen? The active ingredients in chemical sunscreen can damage your body as they soak in through your skin. Chemicals such as Oxybenzone — one of the most common active ingredients in chemical sunscreens — is a hormone disruptor.

Plus, they can be bad for the ocean and the animals who live in it! Chemicals damage the coral reef (it can actually bleach the coral reef) naturally affecting the life that calls it home when it washes off in the water. Just say no to chemical sunscreen. And check out the line of mineral sunscreen Beautycounter carries.

…and while we’re on the topic of SPF

Dew Skin provides a daily SPF 20 protection. Which is actually a huge reason I ended up buying it. I am not the best about putting sunblock on my face.

At all. Even though in theory I know how important it is.

And while Beautycounter carries a lovely SPF for your face, I can’t see myself taking the extra step. So since I put on a tinted moisturizer or light foundation most days anyway, I figured I would increase my chances of actually getting some spf on my face each day.

Moving on to more reasons it’s great…

How long will it last?

I use about the size of a blueberry per wear, and in my experience, my bottle has lasted me about 6+ months.

What does it feel like on your skin?

It is so silky and really feels like it has great coverage, while still looking sheer and natural. The best I’ve had with a tinted moisturizer for sure. It leaves you with a dewy glow that I love, and actually brightens the skin!

It does look a little greasy when you first put it on, and the reason for that is that the SPF doesn’t absorb right away. It does NOT stay that way. Just give it a minute.

How do I use Dew Skin? Is it a foundation or a moisturizer?

Don’t rely on this product to be your one and only moisturizer. Clean and moisturize your face as usual, and then apply this as a tinted moisturizer on top of it.

This is a light coverage tinted moisturizer, so if you’re looking for more coverage, I would direct you to Skin Twin.

I put mine right on my fingertips and dab over my face (don’t rub into your hands before touching your face, you’ll absorb a bunch of the product into your hands), then smooth over my face to cover!

I still use the concealer around my nose and under my eyes, and then finish my 5-minute look (because I don’t have time for anything more!) with blush (I use lychee), mascara, brow gel and a gloss.
