You may have heard the whispers about bone broth, and how magical it can be for your skin, your hair, your nails and your joints…

But did you know all the other health benefits of this nutrient dense delight?

Bone broth is rich in minerals that helps build and strengthen your bones.

It also is rich in gelatin. Water binds to gelatin, which can help sweep food through your gut more easily, making digestion easier.

It has also been known to be beneficial for people with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), or IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), like Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis.

The amino acids found in bone broth help lower inflammation.

And my personal favorite is the rich amount of collagen found in it, which is the main protein found in your ligaments, tendons and bones. Collagen has also been found to improve the quality of your skin, hair, and nails. I find it pretty magical.

But it’s so expensive…can I make it at home?

If you have heard of bone broth already and you have checked in out at the grocery store, you may have been shocked with how expensive this stuff is.

I’ve got you.

I have a way for you to get your refrigerator stocked with bone broth so you can drink it every day if you like, while saving you money.

First of all, let’s talk about starting to buy your chicken whole.

Not only as you going to get a couple of meals out of a whole chicken, but once you have used up all the meat, you’re going to use all the bones to make this bone broth… talk about using the whole animal in multiple ways!

I specifically am going to give you a recipe for bone broth using an instant pot. We used to make in on the stove, but it was cumbersome. It would be simmering for 24 hours, and we would often forget to check it and the liquid would all burn off. Such a bummer.

With an instant pot, it went from being a chore, to being done in 2 hours and never once forgotten about.

Homemade Bone Broth Instant Pot Recipe

  • Put chicken bones (or cow bones) in instant pot
  • Cover with water
  • Put a splash of apple cider vinegar in (this helps draw those nutrients out of the bones)
  • I will often add garlic, black peppercorns, and a half of an onion for flavor
  • Set on high for 2 hours
  • Once finished, pour into large mason jars and store in your refrigerator until ready to use.
  • Enjoy with a pinch of salt for taste

That’s it! What other things do you like to add to your bone broth?
