If you’ve been experiencing some symptoms that make you question whether your thyroid may be off, here is a natural thyroid plan I’m going to be using to hopefully manage my thyroid with food and lifestyle.

A couple of weeks before I turned 40, I had a moment of panic when I had two periods in one month.

I remember my mother struggling through pre-menopause for almost a decade, and I’ve been told before by doctors that I would probably have a similar experience based on my hormone struggles (painful periods, miscarriages, etc).

I have always welcomed aging with open arms…until I thought about menopause. Holy shit, is that going to start now? Am I going to be fighting for my mental health with up and down hormone flucuations for the next decade?

All of a sudden, 40 felt…scary.

After some encouragement from my mom, she mentioned that she wished she had learned about how to manage thyroid with diet and lifestyle when I did…

So, to the library we went.

The Plan

I took out the book “The Thyroid Connection” by Amy Meyers, a roadmap for a natural thyroid plan that I could use to manage the autoimmune disorder with food and lifestyle.

Read through it in 2 days. Ordered a shit ton of supplements. Made a plan to start April 1st… because…birthdays.

Well, that day is tomorrow. And lying in bed all day with a family alternating throwing up in the toilet hasn’t gotten me in the best headspace for this 28 day go…

…especially since coffee is out…

But on the other hand, I am SO excited to feel (hopefully) better, have more energy maybe, and maybe take less naps (as my children are enjoying shaming me lately for all the naps I need to take…).

The diet is super close to paleo…but “stricter” for the 28-day period. I can eat as many veggies (cruciferous veggies need to be cooked), fruit and grass-fed meat as I want. But something that sets it apart from the paleo diet is I need to avoid nuts and eggs this month.

That should be…interesting.

The kids are going to do it with us…because there is absolutely nothing that could bring them harm by eating the healthy foods “allowed” in this diet. They’ll eat as much of it as they want…and we could all use a processed food/sugar detox (fruits are still okay though!).

Here is an example for a typical day on the Meyer’s Way natural thyroid plan:

BreakfastEgg-free breakfast scramble -or- smoothie

Snack– 1/2 cup berries

Lunch– big salad with grass-fed healthy meat on top (check out my blog post on how to make a salad that tastes good, but you would need to omit the nuts, dairy, eggs and beans this month)

DinnerApple Bacon Burger with Sweet Potato Fries This is actually how we already eat burgers, so it’s good to know our Friday night burger night won’t change a bit!

Want to make your life even easier…?

I just found out that Prep Dish has an AIP meal plan that specifically states it is “Meyers Way” compliant for only $24 for the month! That is so exciting and makes eating a natural thyroid plan a no-brainer!

Also, I found this amazing site, Unbound Wellness, that focuses a lot on AIP (autoimmune protocol) and has a very comprehensive post on what is entailed with the AIP .

I’ll fill you in as I go on my “Round Here” posts, so make sure to check in on those!

Wish us luck! I’m feeling right now like I’m definitely going to need it (food prep, anyway).
