In this episode, we interview Jenna Wilson, licensed midwife. After recording episode 11 on Jen’s personal experience having three natural childbirths at home, we felt there was a lot left to be said…from an expert. There were a lot of questions by our listeners on the details of what a midwife does, and what a natural birth can look like from the perspective of the birth worker.

We were lucky enough to interview Jennifer’s midwife who was there to deliver all three of her children at home, Jenna Wilson. Jenna was a perfect fit for the podcast because she not only has the experience as a midwife, but she was previously a doula.

In this episode “Call the Midwife” you will learn:

  • Jenna’s origin story and how she found herself in the birthwork field
  • Doula vs Midwife? What do they each do and how are they different?
  • Midwife vs OBGYN? What are the major differences?
  • The best questions to ask a midwife when looking for one
  • What to look for in a midwife
  • What is your process when a new mom comes in? What can they expect in a natural childbirth setting versus a hospital setting?
  • Do you assist in a hospital?
  • What happens if you’re planning on a homebirth and you need to transfer?
  • Do you still work with the mom in the case of a transfer?
  • What sorts of natural support do you offer during labor?

We enjoyed speaking with Jenna so much that we decided to do a part 2 next week, diving specifically deeper into the topic of postpartum care. So stay tuned for next week!
