This dairy-free matcha latte is creamy and delicious, and just the right amount of sweet. Enjoy warm or iced! Best part? It’s only three simple ingredients. You’re about to save a whole bunch of money by making these yourself at home…you’re welcome!

I have officially not had any type of coffee drink for over two solid months now. This is a huge deal for me. Anyone who has followed me for any period of time has probably uncomfortably watched me declare my break up with coffee, only to be “back on” in a matter of days.

It’s been a thing.

But not only have I gone two months without coffee (huge!), but I haven’t even considered it. My husband drinks coffee every single day, sometimes I make it for him… and I have held strong!

I’ve realized that I wasn’t as much attached to the coffee per se, but the ritual around coming down the stairs when I wake up, smelling the coffee, pouring the coffee, and then wrapping my hands around the hot mug as I slowly opened my eyes to the day.

So today let’s talk matcha. Matcha is one of the drinks I’ve had in rotation since quitting coffee, and I desperately need to start making these delicious concoctions at home or all of our debt progress was going to be ousted. Lately, anytime I get in the car I find myself being pulled by an invisible force to drive to the nearest coffee shop to buy myself an iced matcha latte with almond milk.

And let me just tell you…those suckers are NOT cheap. Anywhere from $4-6 dollars.

Let’s do some quick math, shall we? Let’s say that I get a matcha latte 4 days a week at $4 a pop (to keep this conservative). That is $832 a year. In green tea. $64 a month.

There are so many other things I could be buying a month for $64. Uh uh. Time to start making this at home.

This drink can be made at home in less than 5 minutes and will cost you about $1 a serving.

What you’ll need

  • Matcha green tea powder (I have found that ceremonial green tea makes for a much tastier drink)
  • Honey or maple syrup
  • Dairy-free milk (oat, almond, cashew, etc)

How it’s made

  1. Pour dairy-free milk into a mason jar (or blender) and mix in matcha powder
  2. Add sweetener and combine (if you are using a mason jar, shake real hard!)
  3. Add ice, shake again. Enjoy

I’ve learned that it’s important to combine everything before adding ice, especially if you’re using honey as your sweetener. I ended up with cold clumps of honey here and there as I was drinking it.

And hey, I know this is not the proper way to make matcha, or whatever. This is how this mom of three little kids makes it when it’s 3 in the afternoon, I feel like I’m dragging ass, and I need a little pick me up. It’s quick and it’s delicious. So I hope you enjoy this matcha recipe as matcha as I do, k?

Side note: does anyone else feel like you’re being way healthier drinking matcha for the fact alone that it is green? I know I do!
